In April, 2002, Afghan Relief Fund established its first orphanage in the west of Kabul.  Today, it is the home of 150 orphan girls and boys.  It was established with the following goals in mind:  To give some of the over one million children without a father and/or mother the chance to develop to their potential, to make available to them the extra strength, encouragement and self-confidence necessary to not only stand and support themselves, but also to be a support and contributor to the Afghan society.  Without a strong base of knowledge, ethics and self-expression, the future of the youth in the country looks very bleak.  KOC is working hard at providing a cheerful and healthy environment for these underpriviledged children, who otherwise would not have been able to make it on their own.

Many of the mothers or relatives of these children had been keeping the orphans at home, out of the schools to perform hard labor, i.e. carpet weaving, almond shell cracking, begging in the streets or searching through garbage in the streets for food.  Now, at KOC, they are developing the tools necessary to have a good future for themselves and their society.  An Orphan Sponsorship Program was created where one orphan child can be sponsored for $30 a month.

One of the strongest elements that makes Kabul Orphan Care one of the most successful education and nurturing centers in Afghanistan is its dedicated teachers and staff, all of whom are highly energetic, accomplished individuals with a sincere desire to help their country and people.

With the help of God,  ARF has endeavored to build a 20,000 sq. ft. new orphanage and school that will provide around-the-clock care and education to 300-500 orphan children.  Plans have already been drawn-up to build this education and nurturing center that will become a proud corner of the Afghan community in Kabul and will also be a very strong stepping stone for many underdeveloped orphan children devastated by the last three decades of war.

Please help this critical orphanage program develop to its full potential.  It can guarantee a positive contribution towards the development of future leaders and educators for the country.   Please email or call us to learn how to help, either sponsoring a child or helping the new orphanage
